CPE Bach resting place

Born in Weimar, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach felt right at home in his new city in the north. ‘Whilst not all the people of Hamburg are impassioned connoisseurs and fans of music, most of them are kind-hearted and friendly people, with whom you can lead a pleasant, happy life,’ said the church musician and composer. He was laid to rest here in the St. Michael’s crypt in 1788.
