Take a closer look at the beautiful cross embedded in the altar top, which incorporates the most important places in church history. The piece on the top comes from Jerusalem, the piece on the right from Constantinople, the piece on the bottom from Wittenberg and the piece on the left from Rome. These four pieces are held together by four elements of red brick from Hamburg’s other main churches: St. Peter’s, St. Nicholas’s, St. Catherine’s and St. Jacob’s.
