Church Musical Director Manuel Gera studied church music at Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. After passing the A exam in 1991, he chose to begin a postgraduate course, taking the organ improvisation concert exam in 1995.
He worked in Oberhausen and Soest alongside his wife Anne-Katrin Gera before being appointed church musician at St. Michael’s in October 2001. Manuel Gera founded the St. Michael’s Kantorei on 15 January 2002, which he still leads to this day. With the Kantorei, he has already premiered several of his own compositions, including Credo Novum, Missa de Angelis and Engel-Triptychons.
He and Church Musical Director Christoph Schoener are in charge of the music played during church services and at concerts held at St. Michael’s. Manuel Gera gives organ concerts with a focus on improvisation and makes organ music for children with Anne-Katrin Gera.
